Duties and Responsibilities

Successful candidates will be responsible for:

• Promoting and coordinating marine conservation investments at District and Regional levels.
• Coordinating activities related to the establishment of new marine protected areas.
• Encouraging the formation of community groups involved in marine conservation.
• Mobilizing and coordinating communities in marine conservation initiatives.
• Coordinating the development and management of marine protected areas.
• Supporting activities aimed at the sustainable development of marine conservation areas.
• Coordinating research activities related to marine development and conservation.
• Raising awareness among stakeholders on marine conservation and available economic opportunities within marine areas.
• Initiating and promoting sustainable marine tourism.
• Supervising patrol activities within marine protected areas.
• Conserving heritage sites located within marine conservation zones.
• Educating communities on the sustainable use of marine resources.
• Conducting inspections in marine conservation areas to control illegal activities and unauthorized resource use.
• Preparing implementation reports, including quarterly, semi-annual, and annual reports.
• Performing other related duties as assigned by supervisors.

Qualifications and Requirements

Applicants must meet the following qualifications:

• Must be a Zanzibari citizen.
• Must not be more than 46 years of age.
• Must possess a Bachelor's Degree from a recognized institution approved by the Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar in one of the following fields:
  • Marine Biology Science
  • Marine Science
  • Environmental Science
  • Environmental Science and Management
  • Geography and Environmental Studies
• Must possess good interpersonal and communication skills.
