Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Education or a related field (a Master’s degree in Educational Leadership/Administration is highly advantageous).

  • Licensure: Must be registered with the Teachers Service Commission (TSC).

  • Experience: Proven experience as a School Principal, Deputy Principal, or in a senior educational leadership capacity managing dual curricula (8-4-4/CBC and IGCSE/CIE).

  • Competencies: Outstanding operational leadership, exceptional cross-cultural communication skills, financial acumen, a strong pastoral focus, and a proven track record of growing student enrollment.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

1. Leadership & Strategy

  • Provide professional guidance, strategic direction, and leadership throughout the school.

  • Act as the official spokesperson and representative of the school in all official functions.

  • Ensure the school’s academic and co-curricular performance meets high standards per institutional policy.

  • Maintain exceptional standards of discipline among both staff and students.

  • Participate in regular meetings with school board members to discuss and implement continuous improvements.

  • Record and maintain minutes for all Senior Management Team (SMT) meetings.

  • Take direct responsibility for maintaining and increasing student enrollment to ensure long-term sustainability.

  • Ensure holistic student growth through pastoral care, a core institutional value.

  • Perform any other duties assigned by the School Administrator.

2. Instructional Management

  • Plan and oversee the implementation of an effective curriculum, timetable, and school-day organization; review these frameworks regularly.

  • Maintain strong, up-to-date knowledge of the 8-4-4 / CBC and IGCSE Secondary Education systems.

  • Review school policies regularly to ensure compliance with 8-4-4, CBC, and IGCSE requirements.

  • Oversee examination processes (registration, timetabling, execution per CIE & KNEC schedules, and dispatch of scripts).

  • Monitor curriculum updates, training programs, and online assistance from Cambridge International Education (CIE).

  • Interpret and implement regulatory decisions pertaining to national and international education.

  • Consult regularly with the SMT regarding planning, operation, supervision, and evaluation of educational programs.

  • Teach relevant subjects within areas of specialization as required.

  • Ensure syllabi are fully taught and completed on time.

  • Administer teaching functions, including formal evaluation of curriculum delivery and post-examination feedback.

  • Remain current on local and global educational trends.

3. School Climate & Morale

  • Provide necessary instructional resources and materials to support teaching staff.

  • Foster collegiality, collaboration, and team building among all staff members.

  • Facilitate open, two-way communication with staff, students, parents, and the community.

  • Communicate high-performance expectations and recognize excellence.

  • Ensure efficient resolution of workplace and school conflicts.

  • Build a common vision for school improvement with staff.

  • Maintain an appropriate balance between academics and co-curricular areas (arts, music, drama, sports, community involvement).

  • Identify and apply relevant research findings to drive school improvement.

  • Develop annual school performance objectives and track progress against academic excellence indicators.

4. Personnel Management

  • Ensure recruitment of qualified teachers and non-teaching staff.

  • Support induction, onboarding, and mentoring of new staff.

  • Define clear performance expectations for instructional strategies, classroom management, and communication.

  • Supervise all teaching and non-teaching personnel to ensure duty execution and departmental growth.

  • Observe classroom teaching and recommend targeted improvements.

  • Support the assignment, promotion, and professional growth of personnel.

  • Make formal recommendations to management regarding termination, suspension, or non-renewal of contracts when necessary.

  • Plan, lead, and manage professional development (including CIE program support registrations).

  • Conduct formal performance appraisals at least twice yearly for all staff, in liaison with the HR Manager.

  • Maintain an open-door policy for staff queries and concerns.

5. Fiscal, Administrative & Facilities Management

  • Comply fully with government policies and educational regulations.

  • Support budget development based on program needs, enrollment, and resource requirements; maintain strict fiscal control.

  • Accurately compile, maintain, file, and report all physical/computerized records required by the board and Ministry of Education.

  • Manage allocation and use of school facilities; supervise maintenance for a clean, orderly, safe environment.

  • Ensure sufficient equipment and learning materials for the student population.

  • Oversee boarding provisions, ensuring high standards of pastoral care, safety, and student healthcare.

6. Student Management

  • Take responsibility for overall student welfare and adherence to the admissions policy and entrance procedures.

  • Collaborate with faculty and students to manage an equitable student discipline system.

  • Ensure school rules are uniformly observed per the Student Code of Conduct and Handbook.

  • Conduct proactive discussions regarding student/school issues with parents, students, and teachers.

7. Professional Growth

  • Continually develop personal professional skills appropriate to the assignment.

  • Demonstrate professional, ethical, and responsible behavior as a role model.

  • Ensure teachers are adequately trained for local and international curricula through classroom observations, recorded feedback, and formal evaluation conferences.

8. School & Community Relations

  • Articulate the school’s mission to the community and solicit public support.

  • Build strong working relationships with students, parents, administrative staff, and teachers.

  • Actively market the school to boost student enrollment and brand growth.

  • Serve as the primary liaison between the Education Department, school sponsors, administrative staff, and external stakeholders.

  • Welcome parents into the school ecosystem and keep them informed of developments and children’s academic progress via regular, constructive reports.

9. Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Directly supervise and evaluate assigned staff (Deputy Principal(s), teachers, counsellors, librarians, instructional aides, clerical support, custodial teams).

  • Track and manage teacher and student attendance trends.

  • Act as overall organizer, coordinator, and supervisor of all school activities, driving corrective actions to maintain elite teaching and learning standards.
