About the Role
We are seeking a Lecturer in Engineering Makerspace Education to join a dynamic academic team under the Academic Education Pathway (AEP). The role focuses on delivering innovative teaching in design engineering with a strong emphasis on makerspace-based and hands-on learning approaches. The successful candidate will design, coordinate, and teach modules covering areas such as computer-aided design (CAD), design thinking, manufacturing processes, human-centred design, sustainability, and engineering innovation.
The post-holder will play a key role in enhancing student learning experiences through practical, project-based education within modern engineering workshop and makerspace environments. In addition to teaching, the role involves conducting action-based pedagogical research aimed at improving teaching methods and student engagement.
The lecturer will work closely with academic leaders, module coordinators, and makerspace managers to support curriculum development and deliver high-quality education to large student cohorts. The role also includes contributing to co-creation activities with students, supporting employability initiatives, and encouraging participation in research, competitions, and extracurricular engineering projects.
This position is ideal for an experienced engineering educator or makerspace practitioner passionate about innovative teaching, inclusive education, and developing practical skills in engineering students. Responsibilities include:
- To lead engineering makerspace education for design and build student projects
- Contribute to the ongoing development and utilisation of our makerspaces
- Develop and coordinate multi-disciplinary design and build projects embedded throughout our degrees
- Carry out research activity which enhances Engineering Makerspace Education in the department and contribute to national and international Makerspace Education pedagogy
- Lead initiatives to evaluate and improve student experience within the makerspaces and act as a member of departmental committees, working groups and through internal and external networks.
This is a full time post (35 hours per week ), and you will be offered an indefinite contract.
